The game begins with a mysterious purple meteorite about to collide with Earth. The Autobots arrive at the crash site, and Optimus Prime sees an ancient Cybertronian relic called the Dark Spark, the antithesis of the Matrix of Leadership. While the Matrix grants wisdom, the Dark Spark gives the user the ability to bend the universe and its inhabitants to their will. The Autobots attempt to defeat the mercenaries guarding the relic, but they fail to stop Lockdown from escaping with it.
